In a new interview, Lloyd’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, updated the public on her son and dispelled rumors that had plagued the Star Wars community for many years.
Lisa talked to Scripps News and said her son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008 after struggling and talking about living in different realities, seeing people with “black eyes,” and mentioning having conversations with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
He got ripped on and bullied hard throughout elementary and high school by other kids because of his part in The Phantom Menace, which is supposedly a factor that contributed to the onset of his mental illness. Admittedly he was pretty terrible in the movie, but he definitely didn't deserve to have that happen to him because of it.
Read the article. Mom literally says it isn't true.
It's just a legend people and media created and then repeat non-stop.
Lisa also dispelled the misconception that what led to Jake’s mental illness was the backlash The Phantom Menace received when it was released.
“It would have happened anyway,” Lisa said, noting the medical history of schizophrenia on Jake’s father’s side of the family. “I believe that it was genetic. And his psychiatrist also agrees that Jake was going to become schizophrenic.”
She continued, “I protected him from the backlash. He was just riding his bike outside, playing with his friends. He didn’t know. He didn’t care. Everybody makes such a big deal about that. And it’s rather annoying to me because Jake was a little kid when that came out, and he didn’t really feel all that stuff because I didn’t let him online.”
Lisa also clarified that Jake didn’t quit acting due to Star Wars as “it had to do with our family. And we were going through divorce.”
I agree that bullying alone doesn't result in schizophrenia. However stress, like that caused from bullying, can lead to other actions that can contribute towards one's propensity to engage in things like drug use or can negatively impact healthy eating and sleep habits that are known triggers for those with a family history of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.
His mom is right though that it likely would have happened anyway.
He would become schizophrenic no matter what. That's how it works. If person has it - it has it.
"Stress" didn't result in anything. Natalie Portman was child star, Timberlake was child star, many others were. And they didn't end up junkies or went crazy. Those who did - would become it if they would have other profession too.
Britney would become crazy later in life is she would work as waitress or in office. Because she had mental illness that shows itself when people are adults. Like Jake had. All they can do is to take medication and try to live somehow normal life.
Heyden Christensen was bullied 10 times more. He didn't end up junkie or crazy. People just created this legend they like and want to believe it. He was child actor. And then he didn't want to continue. Like many child actors do. They just stop acting and move on with their life as ordinary people. As acting is not for everyone and not everyone is hustling that fame.
He basically got same treatment as Harry Potter actors did. They all were child stars and had to go to school. And Emma Watson mentioned children would troll her with: "10 point to Gryffyndor". She didn't become schizophrenic or junkie because of it.
I don't think anyone was bulling him. It were adults who hated movies. And those would not come to his school to yell at him. They would yell at character and movie on movie sites. Children his own age would not hate it. I don't think they even cared. No to mention that when his movie came - everyone were exited. And they were exited for second movie with grown Anakin. Big backlash came probably after third movie. When 30 years old facs didn't like how it ended and Heyden's acting. Jake was 16 at that point.
And again - it was mostly adults hating new trilogy that wasn't as cool as the one from their own childhood. I don't think 16 years old teens from his school would go crazy over it.
You're absolutely wrong. A genetic predisposition for schizophrenia does not result in 100% occurrence in predisposed individuals. Studies of twins have confirmed this unequivocally.
I'm not going to bother addressing the rest of your post. I do however suggest that you stop being "lazy" and practice your reading comprehension so that you can distinguish between caused and "likely contributed."
He did not "became mentally ill because of bullying because of Star Wars".
His MOTHER who knows his medical history said it herself. Yet conspiracy theorists will still cling to that myth that he went crazy "because everyone hates Star Wars and bullied him".
He wasn't bullied and had that schizophrenia after his father. Because it runs in the family
"He got ripped on and bullied hard throughout elementary and high school by other kids because of his part in The Phantom Menace, which is supposedly a factor that contributed to the onset of his mental illness. Admittedly he was pretty terrible in the movie, but he definitely didn't deserve to have that happen to him because of it."
There's my complete post; go ahead and point to where I stated that "he went crazy because everyone hates Star Wars and bullied him."
Or better yet, work on your reading comprehension before you resort to such criticism. I also suggest that you further research the difference between a genetic predisposition for schizophrenia and an active manifestation of the mental illness because your understanding of the condition appears to be lacking.
It's funny how you chopped that up and created your own meaning there that's different from my post. Now that I see how you came to that conclusion it's clear you're a twat that's not worth responding to any further in this thread.
Here, I'll do what you did there with your own words as a parting present:
"He got ripped on and bullied hard throughout elementary"
Why? Being a famous actor would have been cool in the school yard.
It's the deranged Fandom Menace trolls who were adults 25 years ago. Would be arrested if they bullied kids.
Did you not go to school in the US? It doesn't take much for a child to be targeted and for something to stick and follow a kid throughout their school career. "Hey Anakin! Why don't you go use the force little Padawan bitch" and other such taunts are pretty easy to picture as every day events.
I believe his mother. Who said he had normal childhood and didn't quit because of Star Wars. Many child actors stop acting.
She also said he was in denial of his illness. And I won't be surprised if he was behaving like an a-hole in school because of illness and children didn't like him.
60 interviews a day is exaggeration. And he was definitely no in school when doing promotion.
I know many people will be too lazy to go and read article. So I will quote the most important part. It's time for people to stop repeating that stupid legend that he was bullied because of Star Wars and went crazy because of it. He wasn't.
