But Spielberg and Lucas are also not that good nowadays. No doubt, Kennedy was a genius back then. Her portfolio said so.
However, maybe she and Spielberg have lost their ways? It seemed that they just can't better adapt their mastery into today's movie market. Almost all of their productions since early 2000s are mediocre at best (that's almost 20 years ago!), not terrible, but not hit after hit after hit like they used to churn out in the 80s and 90s.
I guess they just don't care anymore. They are already succesful enough and rich enough. Making a huge critical hit yet again is nothing to them now.
Kennedy is about getting the product made, turned out, and marketed. She isn't a creative, and seems to have little to no idea of what makes a good movie. That makes her perfect for Disney, which since Michael Eisner, has been almost completely focused on money making and little else.
shareStar Wars is the best thing (commercially) that she produced recently. Before that, she made commercial failures like The BFG...
I mean, it's Spielberg and Kennedy together again. It should have been a critical AND commercial success! But it was not both. The movie was bad and the box office was bad.
How about War Horse? The Adventures of Tin Tin? The Last Airbender? All were not great hits, critically and commercially. Just look at her productions after 2000.
If Kennedy is only good at making money for the studios, the results were terrible, except for Star Wars. But Star Wars always brought money regardless. Even Jar Jar Binks can't bring it down.

Kennedy was who Lucas wanted to run things. That's how she got the job, for better or for worse.

Whether Kennedy WAS a genius in the 80s and 90s... that's debatable. She is NOT now, that we can agree on.
Spielberg is also NOT that great today. He churned out almost exclusively mediocre movies. Not exactly terrible, but not what we would expect from such a legend. In other word, he's a legend... of the past.
Lucas is... I don't know what Lucas is today. A name? A legacy?

Okay
shareLucas has more or less stopped making movies or only doing very small projects. Spielberg on the other hand has been doing well from what I have seen. He hasn't fallen all that much and I still enjoy his movies to this day minus that Michael Bay coop.
