In Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr they say that it was his mother who left his father, not the other way around. His mother was also born out of wedlock. Adrian's grandmother had the last name Grenier-she had an affair with a man named Lopez who refused to acknowledge Adrian's mother as his and only met her two times.
