Before Hamas there was the PLO committing terrorist attacks. Your version of displacement is in fact a 6 day war started by Arabs against Israel that led to Palestinians losing ground. Many countries don't give land back won by wars. However, Israel has.

There are those who use their position to defend human rights and call out injustice and to call out the apartheid policies of the Israeli government and there are those (Scarlett Johanson) who use their position to attempt to normalise and legitimise apartheid and occupation. Cruz should take up the Oxfam position that Johanson was forced to vacate.
