I actually thought this topic would have come up from the massive celebrity hacked nude photos leak scandal, but this topic brought it up instead.
Some of the coverage of that hacking leak made a big splash about how one of the actress's photos that were leaked had been taken when she was underage, and so, were child porn.
(BTW, didn't that make HER guilty of producing and posessing child porn? Maybe with intent to distribute?)

Well, according to all accounts back in 2000, Jessica's parents were present at the GEAR Magazine photoshoot, because she was 17 when the photos were taken, and the magazine wasn't put on shelves until she was 18.
Is there a difference here?

In the IMDB "current news" section of Jessica's page, US WEEKLY magazine recalls that Stephen Collins had called Jessica's topless photo spread in GEAR Magazine "child porn" at the time it came out. In case those top stories move down in the list, the link below takes you to that article, which includes the magazine's cover, (may be not-safe-for-work, NSFW).

To those not familiar with how that photoshoot came to be, Jessica's character in the 7TH HEAVEN series, "Mary", was not what Jessica wanted to continue to do. "Mary" was the older sister to actress Beverly Mitchel's character, but the two actresses' real ages were reversed compared to the characters they played. Jessica's interview in that GEAR Magazine detailed how she tried to get out of the series, and hoped the topless photo spread would get her fired from the show. Later interviews revealed she had not discussed her desire to leave the show with her co-stars, or the magazine photoshoot.
Mistake.
(Or, maybe she didn't actually say those things, and the magazine "embellished" what she did say to sell more magazines, and the mistake was getting involved with the magazine, at all.)
One might even say that could have been due to the youthful impatience of a 17-yr old actor... (wondered why 'Biebs' is getting into trouble?)

Other than Stephen Collin's calling the magazine child porn, there was evidently no other objection, and Jessica got her wish, and was fired from the 7th Heaven show. She did appear with occasional phone conversation appearances to ease the "Mary" character out of the show, (as sent to live with "The Colonel", the Dad's father in the show; "Mary" helped trash the school gym, got suspended, and lost her college scholarship...). Eventually, "Mary"/Jessica made actual appearances much later when things had settled down, and eased her back into the show's late seasons.
