What is with bad actresses blaming it on their looks?

I have read three interviews with three different, mediocre-at-best actresses - Eva Longoria (she's good at comedy, but god awful at drama), Megan Fox and Jessica Biel - where they complain that they don't get any good roles because they're too pretty. It's really kind of ridiculous.

Personally, I think Jessica Biel is gorgeous and she's got a really fantastic body. (And I certainly don't hate her.) But the reason that she isn't getting movie roles has nothing to do with her looks. She's a pretty terrible actress. I've seen her in a couple of things where she's been passable, but honestly, she is nothing special.

How can she honestly think that she is denied movie roles only due to her looks and not her lack of talent? I just don't get it.

Halle Berry, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Connelly, Amy Adams, Charlize Theron, Keira Knightley, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts...yeah, all of these women are clearly just hideous trolls.

Her complaining just shows how clueless she is and why she is a mediocre at best actress. She doesn't want to take responsibility.

She comes across as a stiff and wooden on camera. Frankly, I don't think she's terribly bright.

It seems, especially judging from imdb boards, that perception of many actors acting talents is an extremely subjective thing as opinions are often extremely polrized (it's only a bit less polarizing subject than "chemistry" between actors, whic is also only based on personal perception).

so I don't see how JB is much worse an actress than many others (likes of Rachel Bilsons, Sienna Millers and etc.), at least yet, maybe not bright for her choices, and not brave to make bolder decisions, or maybe it's just it's a result of her agent secretly acting on what many in Hollywood know: she just doesn't have presense or charisma to make her a star ever... so maybe she should stop trying and choose instead some secondary roles, character acting as they call it and prove everyone wrong and show she can act, many others did it before her,

I don't think that Rachel Bilson or Sienna Miller are particularly talented either, but I think that they're better than Biel.

Biel will never be a character actress, she doesn't have the talent. She will be cast at the hot girl until her looks fade and then she will likely fade into obscurity alongside them.

Where is your source? I can't imagine Jessica Biel complaining she's too pretty, that's why she's not getting any good roles. It's probably the opposite - she looks more like the insecure type, that's why she worked hard losing so much weight that her face now looks gaunt and a lot less attractive than when she had a bit of fat.

It was in an interview with Allure, I can't remember which issue. If you Google it, it will come up.

Here's the quote. When asked by Allure if her good looks hurt her, she says: "It really is a problem. I have to be blunt."

Delusion at its finest.

I'm not bothering to look it up, but I recall the interview she stated that.

She's definitely nice looking, but to me she's not in the top 10 in beauty.

It's not her looks, it's her acting. As I said, she seems stiff and wooden, not to mention choosing a lot of bombs in her career.

Agreed. She is just not a natural actress, I can always "see" her acting, you know what I mean? When I watch a movie I want to believe that I'm watching a character live their life, I don't want to be thinking "This is Jessica Biel acting as ________".

And yeah, she really doesn't have a knack for picking decent projects.

My friend and I kept laughing at her acting when we saw Total Recall. It was like watching Channing Tatum act.
