Call me a Camilla Belle apologist, but...
...I saw 'Cloud Atlas' its opening weekend. Not truly relevant to the story except for the fact that a trailer for 'Gangster Squad' preceded the feature.
Which put me in mind to a series of fotos I came across on the web quite recently showing Camilla Belle either arriving for or departing from her audition/reading for the Sean Penn/Josh Brolin film. Trench coat, heels and moll makeup. Of course, Emma Stone (who I have nothing against) got the female lead.
Not the end of the world. Camilla still has her wealth, her reputation and (presumably) her faith in God. But - despite accepting that healthy competition is a prerequisite no matter what walk of life we pursue - as a fan I couldn't help but feel pangs of sympathy knowing that Camilla didn't land the part. Like your alma mater losing in the final minutes to their cross state rival.
Disappointment must be mandatory for any actor at any given time. Following Ms. Belle's career - and sensing her disappointment perhaps in not getting the female lead in 'Gangster Squad' - lent a very human element to my appreciation of what those individuals out in Hollywood must go through.
Just sayin'.
