What will happen to her if they cancel the show?
No show lasts forever. What will she do. So far she's a one-note actress. Can she go to the big screen?

shareOne note actress? Don't think so.
shareEvery episode I've seen she's the same. Same facial expressions, same reactions. Perhaps it's the director's fault but that's all I can go by and I see one-note. Where else has she shown range?
First of all! I'm a huge fan of Mariska's work in SVU, and I think she has shown a huge dept to the character in this show and portrays it perfectly and believable! I think she is exactly the opposite. I don't think she has just one facial expression or one way of acting. I think she portrays her character as a full person with the whole range of expressions, emotions and reactions as any other real life person.
That said I think the things I've seen her in before SVU has been pretty mediocre. Not exactly bad, but not amazing either. But sometimes she hasn't been that convincing. I would say superficial sometimes. Or just too goofy and "overacted".Her characters seems to be the same all over, just different movies/shows. I don't see a very big range in her earlier work.
The again, she was great in ER!! If you see her character there and her character in SVU, they are nothing alike! And both the characters are portrayed very believable. So that goes to show the range that is in her as an actress.
But I do think it will be hard for her to "get rid of Olivia" if she ever does another show, or go to the movies. Just like it's hard for any actor/actress who's portrayed the same character over so many years. I unfortunately predict a number of Lifetime Movies for her. And perhaps some Independent movies, and maybe a guest stint in different crime shows, or comedies etc..
As much as I love Mariska, and admire her work in SVU, I don't see her landing a huge role in any big movie. Not due to lack of talent, but due to so many years in one show. Producers and directors often stay away from someone who is for the most parts associated with a character! The best she could do is a romantic comedy here and there. But again, she is almost growing out of those parts too since she is reaching 50 any minute now! Though Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep have done a couple of those too, so never say never....
But who knows, things have gone very well for Gillian Anderson after 9 years of X files. Then again, she was only 34 when that show ended, so it was easier for her to get work outside of it, and she could "afford" 2-3 years without doing so much in order to get people to "forget about" Scully...
I unfortunately predict a number of Lifetime Movies for her
I unfortunately feel the same thing. She did the movie adaptation of Plain Truth for Lifetime, and I thought she did really good in it. She definitely portrayed her the character the way I saw her in the book. However, I think that if she does go the route, she'll be playing the concerned mother. As long as she's not in a movie like The Pregnancy Pact , I'll be fine with it.
Personally, I would love to see her in a sitcom of some sort. There are some clips floating around that show her comedic side and it would be great to she her in a show like Scrubs or Modern Family .
Speak The Truth. Seek The Truth. Be The Truth.
Ah, Cahilla, who is refreshingly honest. And subjective.
I don't see MH as being an A-list actress after SVU because like Cahilla said, her age and her previous work. MH is excellent as an actress in SVU but to play devil's advocate - she has 10 plus years to prefect the Benson character!
I doubt MH would take Hollywood by storm at age 46...or 50. She would be wise to do serious, dramatic movies after SVU rather than try fluff like romantic comedies. At her age, she's unlikely to be cast as a leading lady in fluff films and I don't see MH settling for sidekick or bit roles as she would get in those type of films.
Almost every actress is famous for that one role and MH will never shake Olivia. If she had wanted to, she'd left SVU years ago. Fortunately and unfortunately at the same time, MH is smart enough to know SVU is her main bread and butter.
I don't procrastinate...I reschedule.
Her and Meloni will never make the money again they make now. Not even close. She knows that.
shareAgreed, which is why I said SVU is her bread and butter.
