Something new to add to the Margaret H thread

Always have been fascinated with Ms Hamilton.
Seems like the consummate Character Actor, but without the appreciation she might have received.

I watch a lot of old movies, and I was kind of shocked the first time I ever say Margaret Hamilton in another role than the witch. She did the Wicked Witch so well that I guess I could not imagine that she could ever do anything else, plus she seemed to hideously ugly. In truth, she was not ugly, she was just acting very well.

As children in Houston, Texas we would all of us on the block go to the one family's house who owned a nice new color TV and watch the Wizard Of Oz whenever it was on. Every time the Wicked Witch came on the screen my 6-8 year old sister would break into tears she was so terrified.

I think of that now and that when I wonder what the TV of today does to children.

She was on an episode of the western Laramie, I believe, and she was very recognizable as a sharp-tongued, judgmental towns person, leading a group of women who were anti-something. It fit the model of being sort of a witch, but she was very good at it, bringing a bit of comedy. And I'm almost positive she had a stint as a commercial spokesperson for something like Maxwell House coffee, and didn't need to employ the witch persona.
For me, Ms Hamilton was extremely telegenic as a character actor, very easy and fun to watch on screen, so I wish she had a higher profile other than for one notable role.
