God this is depressing...

I was just idly looking up Michael Gambon -- one of the world's greatest actors -- and noticed that virtually every post here is about his performance as a wizard in some series of children's films. No posts on The Singing Detective. Nothing on his work in Beckett or Pinter. This after over 40 years in the business. It's enough to make you weep.

While this may be true, I think it'd be in your best interest to actually watch some of these films. As you'll find them mature and interesting films.

I've watched every one -- I have to for my job -- and they are all poorly plotted, badly structured wads of disconnected incident that appear exclusively aimed at people who have already read the books. I would say, without any hyperbole, that the second film was the most boring picture I have seen in all 44 years of my life.

Well a great majority of film critics disagree with you. As do the many fans. I wonder where along your 44 years you lost the ability to enjoy yourself.

If you can't comprehend these children's films that are by no means hard to follow (with no previous knowledge of the books) then I suggest you tell your boss you're simply not qualified, because it was no task for me or my daughter..

Alec Guinness was rather saddened by the fact that more people knew him for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi than for anything else. Ian McKellen, however, is delighted that roles like Magneto and Gandalf have introduced him to a generation of filmgoers. Gambon doesn't seen like the type to be angry that people don't recognize him from his other work as much--in fact, as good an actor as he is, there isn't much else you can point to that was widely distributed. John Gielgud, like Gambon, preferred theater to the movies. But he made probably more movies that people have seen than Gambon has, at least outisde of Potter.

Right? Gambon is a genius. Dumbledore is a one dimensional character compared to the other stuff he has done. Hardcore Potter fans piss me off.
