What languages can he speak fluently?

He was born and spent 6 years in Denmark so he may or may not still speak Danish.

Does he speak Italian?

Was the Spanish he spoke in Breaking Bad just some lines he learned and he does not actually speak Spanish?

And no, this is not an issue of race as was the case in other threads here. So please don't make it one.

His Spanish was flaky but still a great performance overall.

Thank you for the insight. I'm not a native Spanish speaker so I could not tell. But it did sound pleasant on the ear, like it easily rolled of his tongue and did not sound forced.

His parents divorced when he was very young and his father wasn't around so he doesn't speak Italian.

He sounded like he was trying for a better accent than an American one while speaking it, but he definitely did not sound like a native to me. I'm not a native speaker either but I've studied it in school and hear enough accents.

He has spoken spanish in movies and in other tv shows.
So I think he probably speaks spanish.

After all, how pure can pure be?

I just watched S03E03 of BB, where there's a part with Gus Fring doing a fair bit of Spanish speaking, and I gotta say: nope. He definitely doesn't sound like he speaks Spanish. His lines were grammatically correct, but they way he pronounced them and the way he paused his sentences (aka his isochrony - just learned me a word there...) were in some parts highly unnatural.

At least nobody I know has ever spoken Spanish that way...

P.S.: just stumbled upon this Q&A with Giancarlo on AMC, which treats the Spanish speaking issue: http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad/2010/04/giancarlo-esposito-interview-2/

Spanish is my native language and his accent was supposed to be Chilean but it was very unnatural, it didn't even sound like Spanish, other than that excellent performance.
