The Monk

This is the first time that I have visited this board. I read in an interview that he did a film called The Monk. I checked back on this board to see if there were any discussions of this film and I didn't see any. Do any of you frequent posters know the subject matter of this film? HOLY COW! Check out Wikipedia for details. I liked Vince in Eastern Promises and know him 'cause I'm a Viggo fan, but I will absolutely go see this movie if it comes out in the US. I'd like to hear your opinions on this film and the role he will play. Thanks.

According to www.joblo.com, the movie will start in France on June 24th, and in Spain on June 24th. Sadly no other release dates yet. But I am quite sure it will be released european wide, and maybe in the US as well (at least limited).
Secretly, I am hoping the movie will have its premiere at Cannes this year...

As soon as I got to know about the movie and Vincent playing the lead, I got me the novel and I have to say: it is great. It contends all the things a dark story should. And I am sure, Moll turned it into a great movie.

Thanks Lostara for The Monk update. It will probably be 2012 before we see it in my area in the US.

I saw The Monk two days ago; it's only been on release in the UK since 27th April 2012. The subject matter is dark, based on one of the most depraved Gothic horror novels. The film is dark but less depraved and features a solemn and intense performance from Vinz, who is well cast as Ambrosio, the monk who succumbs to evil. I recommend it and will buy it on DVD when it's released. I really enjoyed Vinz's performance, which is a bit of a departure for him as he's much more introverted.

For those who care about such things: there's also a fully nude shot of Vinz in which one can appreciate his fantastic figure.

I liked The Monk, and Cassel of course, but I think this is not the best movie of Moll, and not the best movie of Vincent Cassel ( he plays it in a very subtle way in it, but this is not the way to show the real incredible intensity of thi actor).

I liked this film too, but it was too mild and nice; there was less intensity than I expected. But Cassel was superb as ever, the best part of the film no doubt.
