shareI liked to watch Johnny Carson because when I was a kid it meant I got to stay up late with the big kids, but as far as an actual talk show and interesting conversation - Merv Griffin any day. He would let his guests talk, and ask them interesting questions ... the Johnny Carson show turned into a show that just advertised the latest celebrity movies, or books, with some corny comedy gags.
Merv didn't need a goofball sidekick like Ed McMahon either.
