A RW western I can't remember

Man ! I can't believe there are no comments for the great Richard Widmark !
There's a RW western where he plays a good guy, and late in the film he and another actor, I think an older gentleman, who seems to be an expert with a knife, (at least that's his weapon), and they are pursuing each other. The funny part is they can't get near enough to each other for this knife to do this guy any good, they are running around outdoors. Finally he futilely throws the knife through the air. It's pretty comical. A baseball or football might find the mark, but not a knife. Anyone know this movie? I tried to go through the RW filmography but nothing sounded right.

Garden of Evil 1954 with Gary Cooper??

At this point I can't even trust my own memory. The movie that kept coming to mind was Warlock, but that's not it.
In the movie I remember, a fellow is chasing RW through a dry and quiet town and Wid is pretty far ahead and the other actor, who isn't a young guy, makes one last effort at hitting Rich with the knife he's carrying. Just a Hail Mary. It seemed comical, but the movie was serious, so I wouldn't say it took away from it. I think I may have had Starz Westerns at the time, or some other Western dedicated network. About the same time I discovered Man Without A Star with Kirk Douglas.

But it's been so long since I've seen this particular movie and nothing in his filmography jumps out at me, so I'm very hazy about the details by now. Might not have even been Widmark at this point, but something about that scene stuck with me. The guy with the knife was more of a middle aged actor wearing a Western suit rather than cowboy clothes, the way I remember it.

You could be thinking of the Alan Ladd Jim Bowie movie " Iron Mistress" which ends with Ladd killing a rival and eventually throwing his valued knife overboard, from the riverboat he's on.
