career back on the up?

strange to think she was once britains best young actress after not having much success as a leading actress in nearly a decade now.

but the past year or two seem to be bringing her back to public awareness.
"oranges & sunshine" didnt garner her any major awards, but it did get her name back on the award circuit. "war horse" was a huge grossing best picture nominee. "appropriate adult" got her nominated for a golden globe & a screen actors guild award.
could things be back on the up for her?

Well, she's always had these moments of breaking the surface, but I still hold out in hope...

Hopefully! Perhaps she can take advantage later in her career, as she didn't in the early stages by rejecting all those fantastic roles.

i'm not sure what you mean there. If you're referring to Amelie, she dropped out because she couldn't speak French. If you're referring to Elizabeth, she didn't reject it; the director chose Cate Blanchett instead.

I always thought she rejected Elizabeth...and Gangs of New York (although the latter isn't a huge role, I think it would have done her career good)

the director chose Cate Blanchett instead.

its been said numerous times that blanchett was only the 4th/5th choice for the role. the original #1 choice to play elizabeth was actually kristin scott thomas (who i adore, but just cannot see in this role), but she wanted to take a year or two out from acting. then the role was offered to nicole kidman (filming "eyes wide shut"), emily watson (rejected) and uma thurman (rejected).
at the time, blanchett was relatively unknown- she'd only made a few films in australia.

I can kinda see KST, but not as much as Blanchett, who really does resemble QE1. Watson actually bears a stronger resemblence to Anne Boleyn.

As for her career, well the BAFTA certainly helps.
