Emily Watson won last May the Leading Actress Award ...
at the 2012 Arqiva British Academy Television Awards for her role as social worker Janet Leach in the mini-series Appropriate Adult.
Her co-star Dominic West also won as leading actor, and Monica Dolan as supporting actress.
Truly felt happy for them. They really did excellent portrayals.
I came across this bit of news while searching YouTube for some video of Emily Watson for her role in the coming movie Anna Karenina. It was a hugely pleasant surprise for me, since it seems to me producers have been ignoring her for roles that showcase her wonderful acting talent.
I saw Appropriate Adult sometime last February, and though stories about serial killers aren't really my cup of tea, I gave this movie a chance simply because of Emily Watson, who's on top of my list of favorite actresses after watching Breaking the Waves, Hilary and Jackie back to back sometime after I saw Miss Potter five years ago, on dvd. Miss Potter was my introduction to the sublime actress that's Emily Watson. As Millie Warne in Miss Potter, her authoritative and strong presence impressed me so much and when I saw the two others afterwards, I was awed at the supremely superb character transformation she's capable of.
I hope that after this BAFTA Television Award that she got, more great roles for her are in the offing, not just the small budgetted ones that do not get more promotion and marketing, the ones that do not get her to mainstream consciousness like in the movie Into the Whirlwind, one with a moving story and with one of Watson's finest portrayals.
Truth inexorably, inscrutably seeks and reveals Itself into the Light.
