Emily was brilliant in Red Dragon and Fireflies in the Garden but nowadays she often plays grumpy old ladies - like War Horse and The Book Thief.
She's only 48 but have to play ladies in their mid 50's and their 60's. What's up with that?
She's pretty choosy in her roles, and is also pretty hard to cast, so I imagine it's just the best of what she can get. Hopefully, her roles will increase as her star rises again.

She did look beat and nasty in The Book Thief especially. But I'd cut her a break for the sake of a fine performance. I think she could clean up quick, and still look kind of sexy.
