On Conan Tonight

It was a joy watching DVD on with Conan tonight, and I'm wondering if time and osteoporosis have taken their toll on his (DVD) height? Conan praised him for his "long, lean" look which he aimed to emulate, then got up to "dance" alongside DVD. I was so shocked at their height difference! I always thought DVD was tall - and IMDB states his height at 6'1" and Conan's at 6'4". So I have to ask, was DVD really ever 6'1"? Because that was no 3" difference between those 2 fellows! No way! DVD was dwarfed by Conan. It was shocking how much longer and taller and pencil-like Conan appears next to him. Wow. DVD is still a slender man, but Conan looks skeletal and gigantically T.A.L.L. Only 6'4" really?

Well, he did just turn 89, and it's not uncommon for people to lose physical stature (sounds nicer than "shrink") in their advanced years. I remember seeing him at a location shoot for Divorce, American Style in '67, and I'd have easily guessed him to have been over 6 feet at the time.

Poe! You are...avenged!

I was amazed by the height difference too. DVD looked great, but he also looked about 5'9" next to Conan.

I know, right! It was quite striking. I think he's awesome as ever @89yo and always. And his hair actually appeared to be his own. Massively awesome head of hair! Time sure does take its toll on all of us, doesn't it? And thank you, Dog for sharing you personal brush with DVD so long ago. It makes sense he was that tall originally. At least, everyone always commented about him being that tall, not like some actor who desperately tried to appear taller than IRL.

I saw him at a jazz concert and walked past him close-by in 1987. I'm 6 feet tall, and he was definitely taller than me.
