Underrated in AT LONG LAST LOVE

I just watched the Bogdanovich musical AT LONG LAST LOVE and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and how good Cybill Shepherd was in it. You can't keep your eyes off her. The whole cast is wonderful in the film, Burt Reynolds, Madeline Kahn and Eileen Brennan are especially good. The film was yet another example of a musical being released at a time when musicals were easy targets and not in vogue. The critics were out to get both Bogdanovich and Shepherd. I don't think it had as much to do with the film as it did their relationship. Shepherd has a beautiful sounding singing voice in this and the whole movie was nothing short of charming. The set and costume design are magnificent. It's time for a DVD release of this so people can see that it isn't at all the reputation it has. It really is a fine well constructed feel good film musical.

Are you insane? Cybill was beautiful but acted on par with some girl in grade school in a play. The other actors were dreadful. It was such a debacle that even the egomaniacal Bogdanovich apologized for it -- in print ads, no less!

@jonchopwood, All you know is what you think you should be. You've been reading too many film criticism books. Directors are not always the best judge of their films. Bogdanovich never "apologized" for Cybill Shepherd. His regret was filming the numbers "live" as opposed to recording them first and having the actors sing to playback.
