Most people do beat it nowadays unless they're chock full of other co-morbidities. Fortunately, the virus has mutated to a far less virulent one. The first strain that hit in early 2020 was a MFer. I lost an aunt, my wife's cousin (in law), and two friends - all before the end of the spring.
