One of the great voices of cinema

There are a few actors you like because of the voice alone.
Rufus Sewell is one of those actors. His voice always reminds me of the late Richard Harris. Other actors with great voices are in my opinion Christopher Lee, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Kiefer Sutherland.

I agree, I have most of the Bond books on CD which Rufus read and they are excellent. He really reads them and when reading as Bond really does it well.

His voice astonishes me - silken, wispy, always seeming to be on the verge of breaking up, yet for all that, powerfully masculine and seductive. Its breathy intimacy in Nick Silver Can't Sleep is so pungently erotic, you have trouble remembering that Rufus's character is a nocturnal plant. ;o) I'd rather hear him read a poem than any other actor dead or alive, and I've heard quite a few. Your list is outstanding, incidentally. I'd add to it Gregory Peck, Nigel Davenport, John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Russell Crowe, Richard Burton, Charles Laughton, David Attenborough, Charlton Heston, Antonio Banderas, Ciaran Hinds, Tim Curry, Christopher Plummer and James Mason. I'm partial to Brits as you can see.

You cannot talk about great voices and leave out Jeremy Irons. That said I think Mr. Sewell is been tragically underused in film. IMO he's a wonderful actor of depth and sublety

I'd add Clive Owen to the list. Wish Rufus was in more movies though.

If we're talking not of great voices per se, but of the greatest "bedroom voices" of all time, I'd say that, for me anyway, Rufus is without peer.

You'd have to be fortunate enough to have heard the radio play, Nick Silver Can't Sleep, to fully appreciate the sense of intimacy Rufus's voice is capable of conveying.

And I'd add Benedict Cumberbatch.

I just saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and I was gobsmacked. It was as if Tom Hardy was doing a Rufus Sewell imitation. I can't remember what he sounded like in Inception, but in TT it was as if Rufus had given him intensive lessons in voice, diction and delivery.
