Little Night Music

LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is finally on dvd. The film was hardly seen when released
in 1978 and was on vhs for a short time. There are many things wrong with the
film but certainly not Miss Rigg. She is superb as Charlotte and is quite touching when she sings "Every Day a Little Death". "A Weekend in the Country"
is superbly shot and Elizabeth Taylor is also fine as Desiree. But changing the
locale from Sweden to Vienna means that all references to the midnight sun and
its effects on lovers are cut as are several songs which worked on the stage but
would not in the movie. But thanks to Hen's Tooth Video the film is available and
one can add it to their Diana Rigg/Elizabeth Taylor collection. Liz Taylor's
"Send in the Clowns" will leave you speechless.

I've only seen the everyday a little death clip and enjoyed it. I may check it out, and thank you for sharing your views.

i'm so glad someone is talking about this unappreciated film. Diana Rigg is fantastic, and i always thought Lesley Anne-Down is superb as the virgin wife. The Now/Soon/Later sequence is well done and despite most of the cast being dubbed i thought the whole film was entertaining.

The dinner scene with liz and diana exchanging words is a hollywood moment

I'm glad to know that this movie is avalable. I have an old VHS tape that is barely watchable any longer, and I've always enjoyed this movie. Although it deserves much of the criticism it has received, I enjoy it very much. The story is charming and the music is lush and gorgeous. I especially like the opening song written for the film. Always love Diana Rigg; nobody can present a sumptous mouthful of the English language quite like she can.
