Favorite Performance?
For me, it was Kathy Selden from "Singin' in the Rain".
shareSo many to mention. I grew up watching "Molly Brown" and "The Singing Nun" every year. From the moment she boop boop a doop'ed in "Three Little Words" to the voice of Helen Kane singing "I Wanna Be Loved By You" to the puddy nose added onto her as Liberace's mom in "Beyond the Candelabra", Debbie just never stopped being magical. That's a gift from God. Of course, "Singin' in the Rain" is priceless, an all-time classic if there ever was one, but there's her singing and dancing to "Abba Dabba Honeymoon", going through a haunted house dancing in "Hit the Deck", finding "The Tender Trap" with Sinatra, dealing with a baby on her steps in "Bundle of Joy" (while she had Carrie in her tummy), talking about the hair in a man's nose in "Tammy and the Bachelor", singing with a bunch of kids she finds in her backyard in "My Six Loves", shooting at a gossiping tour guide in "Molly Brown", getting grouchy Agnes Moorehead to show some tenderness as "The Singing Nun" and making me cry over a spider's death in "Charlotte's Web".
On TV, playing mom's to Ann Jillian, Crystal Bernard, John Goodman (!) and Debra Messing, reacting to Peter Griffin's revelation about her teacher on "Family Guy" and reminicing about sharing husbands with Elizabeth Taylor in "These Old Broads", afterwards singing "Get Happy" in a gay bar!
"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."
More recent, just becuz it was soooo funny to me... "MOTHER". She and Albert Brooks were so hilarious together! I hope it comes out on cable again soon. RIP,Debbie.
shareSinging in the rain! I also liked her as Helen's mom on Wings.
shareAnd Tammy... Well EVERYTHING!!
shareThe Catered Affair
shareI'm not sure if I have a favorite, but she should've received Oscar nominations for Singin' in the Rain and The Catered Affair. She was such a good actress.
shareThe Unsinkable Molly Brown
I've never seen her in anything.
The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.
