Another TV legend has passed on: Grant Tinker, former chairman of NBC, died on Monday at his California estate. He was 91.

Tinker served as CEO of the Peacock Network from 1981 through 1986, helping NBC escape last place by developing classics such as Cheers, Family Ties and The Cosby Show. With onetime wife Mary Tyler Moore, he also formed production shingle MTM Enterprises, which produced the likes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show (and its spinoff Rhoda), The Bob Newhart Show, WKRP in Cincinnati, St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues. He would eventually be inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1997.

Today show anchor Matt Lauer announced Tinker’s passing on Wednesday’s broadcast (embedded below). A cause of death has not been reported.

They've now got Mary making a public statement about Grant's passing. Is that possible? Isn't Mary supposed to be vegetative right now? I'm assuming it's a prepared reaction coming from her representatives.

Undoubtedly provided by her husband or her rep, according to those near and dear. Dick Van Dyke for example, she is no longer lucid. Also it's been released she's in the final stages of Alzheimer's.

I believe it was Betty White who said she can no longer communicate, so yes that sounds 'vegetative'. The more I hear about her and her state of being, the more I think of how Zsa Zsa lived her last years - in her bedroom in her Bev Hills home; just existing.
