A "Feminist Icon"...?
I don't know if it's a testament to how good the "Mary Tyler Moore" show was or to how stupid people have become when they posthumously claim that Mary Tyler Moore was a "feminist icon".
The truth is, all throughout the filming of the "Mary Tyler Moore" show, Mary Tyler Moore -- the actual person -- was a married mother.
Can people not tell fact from fiction?
In real life, MTM was apparently a Catholic with fairly conservative views who even in the 1970s -- at the height of her show's success -- confessed to having declined Gloria Steinem's "recruitment" into the feminist movement due to not agreeing with Steinem's views (smart woman -- Moore, that is; not Steinem).
Instead of being incorrectly remembered as a "feminist icon", I would hope, instead, that she'd be remembered for being the charming, charismatic, classy and talented woman and performer that she was... who shined the quotient of light that was given her -- to our benefit! -- in this often dark world.
Room for one more, honey.
