Period and Jonny

He quite likes period drama ,particularly the Austen novels .
He has the accent and the presence to embody those characters.

Definitely some of my favorite roles of him. Esp. Knightley!

I couldn't disagree more, he is appalling in period dramas and terribly miscast, he is just too modern, he looks awkward. Mind you anyone enjoying that terrible version of Emma probably doesn't really 'get' the era anyway. It was embarrassing and woeful, I honestly have never seen Austen done so badly since...oh wait...Mansfield Park another miscast JLM role.

you may disagree but I also love his work in Jane Austen films
each to their own I guess

reply

wow.....that is some crazy delusional fans there. Look he is perfectly fine in modern stuff, I like him but Mr. Knightly??? Come ON...did you see Mark Strong?

JLM needs to leave the Greatcoats to men with a less contemporary look. He MIGHT swing a 70's punk, maybe even a Teddy boy but going any further back things are going to get dicey.

Mark Strong was awesome too:)

Clearly different strokes for different folks - I hated Mark Strong as Knightlry. I thought he lacked the humor which is vital to the part. Without it, Knightley is a rther overbearing prig which is not how I imagined the part. Jeremy Northam was very good but I prefer Miller's portrayal of the bunch.

The gentleman highwayman in Plunkett and Macleane is probably my favourite of his roles.
