Accent

Melanie does, in my opinion one of the best "American accents" of any actor. I think she's definitely better than Hugh Laurie who is really amazing. It's a small but annoying issue having to listen to people like Owen Yeoman(horrendous) and other Brits and Aussies doing horrible accents. Is it that there no American actors good enough who want to do TV? Or is it the novelty of having everyone say, "Oh my god, I can't believe he/she isn't American!" I'm surprised that some of these actors aren't embarrassed. Otherwise you might end up sounding like Paul McCartney in Rocky Raccoon.

I think it gets taken for granted because the average American accent is pretty unremarkable (Dolly Parton and Tony Soprano don't represent the majority). Obviously someone from the UK doesn't find a "British accent" so interesting, but the inflection is much more distinct regardless of region.

Not TV, but Sam Worthington in Avatar...laughable. He sounded like an Aussie trying to do a Boston accent which is presumably what he was going for. If it's some indie film that no one's going to see then whatever, but the fact that James Cameron simply didn't care enough because the movie was going to make a gazillion dollars is a little disappointing. It was a little distracting honestly. Although this is from a guy who didn't care that all Terminator T-800s had Austrian accents.

PS - If any Redcoats bring up Dick Van Dyke-that was like 50 years ago so give it a rest.

Sam Worthington has a horrible australian accent (and fake too) let alone american accent. Melanie does it nicely because she can actually act!

the gay brother from brothers in sisters does an absolutley flawless american accent 9hes welsh), as does the guy from greys anatomy (ex-army guy) and marianne jean-baptiste on without a trace and especially joely richardson on nip/tuck. even after i found out she was english i still thought she had an american accent, and i thought she was putting non a british accent when i saw her earlier in another movie.

but yes, mels accent is very good IMO, probably cos in NZ we are very subject to american programming and movies etc, so we are used to hearing it more than say a brit (daniel Craigs accent in tomb raider was shocking)

hey, yoda needs to give some better advice, or yoda needs to shut the *beep* up

while sam was born in england, he was raised in ausland since he was very young, his aussie accent is real, and very bogan, well i think we all sound boganish after hearing yank accents...

and melanie's accent rocks, im aussie, and i feel that we dont really HAVE an accent people can copy, i mean with american accents, you just have to like lengthen your RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrs and for english you shorten all your vowels, i think i freakin rock at accents and posted a video on my myspace account, and got a pretty good reception from it, and asked to make another one. some people can do it and do it well, others are just *beep* i agree with the below comment on daniel craig in tomb raider, i watch it for the LULZ :D

Well, just remember that we Canadians do not speak like Americans and there are regional accents.
