Met her..

She went to the same school as me. She's a few years older and had left by the time I started, but came to our school back when I was 13 (13 years ago), and talked about what life was like becoming a movie star. Someone had come into my school back then and asked if anyone was interested in auditioning for Heavenly Creatures, her debut movie.
She is so down to earth and is still a true-blue Kiwi. Friends of mine who work in retail have served her when she's back home visiting.. and they always say the same thing - that despite how wealthy she would be, she loves the simple things in life.. she's not plastic and hollywoodised.. she's stayed really sweet and most of all REAL.

Oh, that's so nice to hear...from all her interviews she sounds like a very modest (to a fault) person and she mentions New Zealand quite a bit although I think she is more settled now in America.

Love this post!

Just checking out Mel’s thread after seeing her in the excellent I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore, and so nice to read what I’ve always suspected, that she is just an awesome down to earth Kiwi chick.
