I can't believe how much you guys care about her in Cheers!!

But for me, I grew up watching her in Disney movies like Susie Q, Freaky Friday with Gabby Hoffmann and the Brady Bunch Movie.

You do realize that a lot of people are older than you, right? Why would that be such a surprise?

I am the sod-off shotgun.

Because some people believe Cheers is the best sitcom there ever was:

Plus:
"If you want to see a great pilot, watch the first episode of Cheers. It's charming, funny and well constructed."

Tina Fey, Bossypants

"Have you ever read the pilot? It’s one of the most perfectly written." Amy Poehler (who called it "the best TV show there ever was" here:

“I'd rather have written Cheers than anything I've written.”
Kurt Vonnegut, author, Slaughterhouse Five.

No disrespect intended to those other things you mentioned, but, you know, Cheers.

But her character in Cheers was so unlikeable! It's hard to believe it lasted so long with her in it and how much better it got with Kirstie Alley.

if you watch her in cheers you will understand her massive appeal,it was a role in which she really shined in and played the part brilliantly. She created 1 of the best tv characters of all time. Besides that the writing was superb and the show was the top thing on television and indeed one of the best of all time and she was at the centre of it. After cheers, her projects were mediocre and could not come close to the excellence of diane chambers.

I agree with you ladisneyprincesse. I remember her best through movies like Susie Q, Freaky Friday, and Brady Bunch Movie. I got into Cheers just a month or two through reruns on TVGN. I really like her as Diane, too.

reply

I never found Diane unlikeable, but the writers came close to making her insufferable in her final season. Long was superb in this role!

matter of opinion.

i liked both women in it about equally, and loved that they were both so different from each other.

Cheers was absolutely amazing. A bona fide hit from the very start. No TV couple in history I'd rather watch fight, and make up, than Sam and Diane. Two people that have no Earthly business being together. But somehow, you can't help but root for them. Diane is one of the most neurotic, unbalanced, anger-inducing, nutcases that ever lived, but your heart just goes out to her. Even when you hate her, you still have to love her.

Some of the finest writing, finest acting, and most enduring characters in television history. Personally, I like 'Frasier' even better, but I would never begrudge a person the opposing opinion. Cheers was a treasure. Watching Sam and Diane (and the rest) bicker, banter, fight, break up, make up, etc. was absolute TV gold!
