Was really strange watching him in How I Met Your Mother. He did such a convincing job in Dexter that now I can't see him as anything else :(

shareI have never seen him in Dexter, but I first saw him play the main bad guy in Cliffhanger. He was such a nasty piece of work in that that I always found it odd watching him be funny in 3rd rock from the sun, because any minute I expected him to mercilessly slaughter an innocent woman to prove a point.

To be honest, he's always come across as a bit unhinged; he was pretty odd in The World According to Garp. He has always been odd. Buckaroo Banzai? Odd. 2010? Odd.
I wonder if he's a serial killer in real life? Travelling to movie locations would give him the perfect opportunity to pursue his hobby, and who would suspect John Lithgow? He would be too obvious.
a lot of people i knew had trouble seeing lithgow as a serial killer because of his role on 3rd rock from the sun.
