Well "Torn" is a cover Natalie did, so she didn't write it.

And it still has nothing to do with rape. The only thing that would give that indication would be the whole "I'm cold and I'm shamed laying naked on the floor" followed by being "bound and broken" at the end. But it's not literal from what I imagine. Much of the other stuff to me is typical early 90s alt-music stuff using metaphors and alluding to things to uhhh, make the lyrics seem more complex than they really are.

The song is more about how someone you're first in a relationship with someone and how you can be blind to their flaws and what they're really like (on a unrelated note, such as when you have friends that say it about someone and you don't see it until much later) but as time passes they come more and more apparent to where you see them as they really are and seem to be a totally different person once the blinders are off. You still have feelings for them but they're not the person you were in love with and things end badly and the confusion/sadness that sets in.



Or something like that, I'm feeling too lazy to go into greater detail and I'm probably off but that's pretty much what I always got out of it, I could probably go and dissect the lyrics line by line but I think that's enough to show what I'm getting at and I've already written much more than I intended to.
