R.I.P.

Hal Holbrook, reliable character actor famed among other roles for his performances as Mark Twain, has died aged 95.

I particularly admired his work in That Certain Summer and Into the Wild. R.I.P.

GREAT ACTOR...HIS ROLE IN INTO THE WILD BROKE MY HEART...RI.P.

He was remarkable as Mark Twain. He could have written a biography, so naturally when that famed PBS documentarian (who shall remain nameless) did one of his butcher jobs on Mark Twain, he interviewed Holbrook, but didn't ask anything that might have corrected their botched record. What a waste.

He was a grand actor. And he had so much of Mark Twain's material committed to memory that he just read the daily news, walked onstage and winged it. And it was always topical.

He will be missed.
