Why didn't his career take off?

Having just watched Sin City 2 I was reminded that Josh had a small part at the end of Sin City back in 2005. Back then he was the up and coming actor and it was thought he would become a massive star. Now, almost 10 years later he's done next to nothing of note since, so where did it all go wrong?

Drugs.

He felt it would cause him unhappiness in the long run, according to interviews. I wonder the same thing, I was very fond of Lucky Number Slevin.

His career did take off. Around 2003-2006 he was a legit name in Hollywood. But he didn't want to play the "Hollywood game" of politicking and kissing all the right asses. Some people act just because they like acting and not to be famous and feed their own ego.

Did you have a look at his most recent appearance? He's massively changed since his last big role.

I think what really happened was Sam Worthington, Chris Helmsworth and Channing Tatum took away Harnett's 15 minutes of Fame. Think about it...Harnett dropped off the scene in and around 2009...the same time Avatar hit, and Hemsworth's short role as James T. Kirk's father in JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot.

Ive heard he made some bad decisions and turned down big roles including Christopher Nolan's Batman. Now he's has dropped down to TV doing mediocre shows like Penny Dreadful, looking for a break again.

Mediocre? Penny Dreadful is some of the best TV of this decade! And Josh is burning up the screen in it, acting- AND looks-wise. In my book, a monster (no pun intended) hit TV series of which he is the star can hardly be called a step down.

I'm only in Show Biz by injection
