What is up with this picture on his profile?

I was watching "Sexy Evil Genius" where the character Mark Von Dutch was supposed to be played by Anthony Michael Hall and this picture was the one set as his profile pic. I had to click on the link to view the photo closer because it just does not look like him at all!
I know he has gone through some very dramatic changes looks-wise during his career but this photo looks absolutely nothing like him. Was it photo-shopped and/or otherwise manipulated and if so why? Any ideas?
