Amazing in Melancholia

Easily best supporting actress in 2011. The Oscars sucks!!!! I know the director made some offensive remarks about Hitler, but it's just not fair to snubbed her and Kirsten Dunst. Gorgeous movie.

Agree. Her terrified performance in the last 5 minutes made it SO real.

I just saw the movie and I had to come here to post how impressed I was by her acting. It was oscar material if I ever saw one.

The Oscars have sucked for a long time. Look who is nominated for the Best Actress and supporting actress category, and we all know who is going to win those. Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kirsten Dunst were excellent in that film and and the Academy Awards have lost all credit-ability for not nominated them for that movie. At least the Cannes Film Festival got it right.

reply

I believe the film didn't get nominated for any oscars because of the nazi comment, the academy didn't want to get any backlash.

Too bad, a little controversy to shake things up isn't so bad.

Nazi comments are bad for business. It doesn't matter if they are pro or anti. Lars' comments happen to be anti, but because he made them in France, and the international media has become so twisted in their battle for "clicks," they were made out to be pro, which is the real anti-Semitic act.

Artists don't limit their conversation, and thus can be seen as bad for business. However, the controversy surrounding Lars has only increased his number of fans. The ones who are detractors aren't really engaged, and it's easy to spot that, just look at some of the comments on imdb.

Controversy has certainly been a boost to Lars' career.

You can literally see the Oscar becoming out-of-reach for Dunst when Lars made the comments, which the media predictably, deliberately misinterpreted. It was worth happening just to see that reaction. Dunst should have definitely won, as well as Gainsbourg, but it's better that they didn't. The Oscars doesn't appreciate art. It's about business, and the two don't mix well.
