Liked his movie character in horror film THE NIGHT FLIER
Miguel Ferrer is gone now, at too early an age. I'd seen him here and there over the decades. I remember him in ROBOT COP (1987). He was so youthful but looked much different in the role I liked him best at, the cynical, hard-bitten, Kolchak-like investigative reporter at a well-established sensational rag magazine in the horror film, THE NIGHT FLIER.
THE NIGHT FLIER actually came out in the theaters around mid-to-late January 1998 and I remember seeing the movie on a dark, rainy afternoon that was a dark, rainy night when I exited the theater. I thought NF was a pretty decent horror film and it all due to the acting of Miguel Ferrer as the tightly-wound investigative reporter. His role was a more high-strung, tight-wound, much less likable version of Carl Kolchak from THE NIGHT STALKER.
THE NIGHT FLIER featured a first, a vampire who moved around by piloting a Cessna Sky Master, tandem-engine prop plane, going from one small, rural airport to another to kill a few people then move on. The vampire was a actually a monster that did have the ability to look like a man yet I didn't like that movie's vampire construct. The ending wasn't satisfactory to me but overall the movie was a good one.
