She was just fine when she worked with Woody
I'm not sure there's a single Woody Allen movie with Mia in it that I don't like. Too bad things went bad for them in the real world.

shareNever seen a movie by Woody Allen I didn't like period. Even the ones other people say are lousy I find to be at least as good as everything else out there. Some of that, I think, is the high bar he set for himself with Annie Hall and the like. Okay, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion isn't as good as Manhattan, but it's still a great comic concept. Many of his films are just underrated, too, like Small Time Crooks or Scoop.
shareWoody has peculiar tastes in women. Louise Lasser was a funny gal but a little nuts which is why she worked so well on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman". Diane Keaton seems relatively sane but lacking in self-confidence. Mia was an effective muse for him for over a decade but one who was totally batshit crazy. He's seemed happy and serene with his married life to Soon Yi for almost 30 years but all that married bliss hasn't been an inspiration for his filmmaking. Occasionally he'll do something truly great but it's been slim pickings for the most part. Still, I'll see any film he makes. Another casualty like Polanski of the #MeToo fanatics--in Woody's case, based on allegations of child abuse that he was legally cleared of in the 90's.
shareI've often supposed that having a smart and stable person in my life would help me be a smart and stable person, rather than me always being the rock others can moor to and not having emotional responses that aren't helpful.
It's regrettably rare to find that person who knows how to talk you down off the ledge and make the relationship a better marriage. Most people see the hysteria and amplify it. Smart people take a better route.
