The Films that were not to be....

Of course, MASTER CLASSS, is the BIG one - but there were many throughout the last 20 years that never came to be:

Bear Lake Run with Norman Reedus and William Hurt

Catherine the Great produced by Bob Guccione and directed by Nicolas Roeg. I read an article where Faye said "I'm reading the script to make sure I don't have to do anything untoward!"

CORRECTION (thank you briceguiheux) The Bahama Triangle with Jason Priestly (or Luke Perry I can't remember) and Michael York
I can't find a link but I think it was mentioned in on old Ted Casablanca article from E!
Faye was going to play Wallis Simpson (again!) to Michael York's Edward and either Jason or Luke was to play their bisexual hustler lover!

The Beauty of Sharks Directed by Karim Aïnouz back in preproduction

Then there were the films that got made but without Faye:

Asphalte (Faye's role went to Isabelle Huppert)

American Cowslip (Faye's role went to Diane Ladd)

Life During Wartime (Charlotte Rampling took the role)

Cowboys for Christ aka The Wicker Tree (Faye's role went to Joan Collins then the role was cut when Christopher Lee was recast with younger actor)

Provinces of Night aka Bloodworth (Faye's role went to Frances Conroy)

Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (Faye's role went to Angie Dickinson)
I remember how excited I was when Faye was cast with Lily Tomlin in the film, and then I was devastated when they both dropped out. Then I saw the movie and was RELIEVED they both dropped out!

Can anyone remember anymore?

Please God don't let Cliffs of Freedom become part of this list!

Family Plot Hitchcock offered her the role that went to Karen Black. A friend of mine worked on a Hitchcock documentary a few years ago, and they contacted Faye to know more about it. She replied that she didn't remember why she said no but wished she had done it because she had some wonderful meetings with Hitchcock.
Not the master's best film, but I would love to see Faye as an Hitchcock blonde.

Fedora I've seen a documentary about Billy Wilder, where it was said he wanted Faye and Marlene Dietrich to star in his 1978 film. Marthe Keller later took on the role, but honestly she doesn't have Faye's aura. Like for Hitchcock, it's not Wilder's best film but I like it a lot and I think it would have been a good choice for Faye.

Fun with Dick and Jane The role went to Jane Fonda. Absolute crap. Good she passed on.

Julia The role went to Vanessa Redgrave who won an Oscar, and Faye later regretted her decision but it was at the time she took her break from acting after the Oscar win for Network.

Fatal Attraction She was apparently considered for the part of Glenn Close. 1987 would have been an even better year for Faye ("Barfly" and "Fatal Attraction", can you imagine?)

Man Trouble According to the Daily Mail, she was offered a supporting role in that film opposite Jack Nicholson but found insulting that his fellow lead actor was Ellen Barkin, who was 17 years her junior. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-416022/Faye-Dunaway-flashes-new-pearly-whites.html

Postage Due It was announced in 2003 and supposed to be shot in Ireland. The film never got made. http://www.contactmusic.net/faye-dunaway/news/dunaway-goes-to-ireland

The Bermuda Affair was also called The Bahamas Triangle. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1421903/Dunaway-to-star-in-film-of-Duchesss-affair.html

The Time of Their Lives It was announced in 2011, and I was so disappointed to learn when the film was finally shot that she was no longer in it. It's starring Joan Collins, Pauline Collins and Franco Nero, and it's going to be released next year. It looks fun, and it was a starring role. Really disappointed.

A Pedro Almodovar project was announced in 2000. The film was never made as Almodovar is always afraid to shoot a film in English. Probably the biggest disappointment along with Master Class. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2000/apr/17/news.pedroalmodovar

I don't count Fedora, Julia, Fatal Attraction, Man Trouble etc because announcements never appeared in print or on IMDB. I'm sure she's offered a lot of things.

My mistake. I didn't read in your first post that you were mentioning projects from the last 20 years.... So, "Postage Due", "The Time of Their Lives" and the Pedro Almodovar project.

I forgot The Time of Their Lives! I was so excited about that one!!!

And you're right it was Bahama, no wonder I couldn't find a link!

'Postage Due' sounded cool. Faye as a casting director in a suspense thriller! I wish that had happened.

I wonder if she is back in consideration for The Beauty of Sharks now that it is back in preproduction?

Oh, and back further than 20 years is Scenes From the Class Strugle in Beverly Hills. They wanted Faye and Jack Nicholson but wound up with Jackie Bisset and Paul Mazursky.

She turned down the role in Requiem for a Dream that ultimately went to Ellen Burstyn.
I simply don't believe this. She might have been in early discussions about being in it (along with about 10 other actresses from her generation) but I really don't believe she'd turn down a huge starring role with a hot young director and name co stars. That's what she's wanted for DECADES.
