Was Puzzle Of A Downfall Child a lost film?q
Jeffrey Shatzberg said it was in an interview but I'm not sure what he means by that, was the movie completely unavailable?

shareSomeone uploaded a decent print of it to YouTube a couple of years ago that has since been taken down. Therefore, it can't be a completely lost cause. Maybe he meant "lost" in the sense of "overlooked" or "obscure."
Helga, I'm not mad at you; I'm mad at the dirt.
Yes! I just decided to look for it again and, lo and behold! This is wonderful news, since I've never seen the whole thing.

No, it wasn't ever lost, and used to play on TV occasionally in the years between its release and the advent of home video.
It just wasn't very well known, as it didn't get very good reviews when it first hit theaters.
.
Family Circle magazine declares it fascinating !!!
Well if FAMILY CIRCLE liked it...!!! (Did Woman's Day weigh in?)
And Gene Shalit was never a very insightful or heavy-hitting critic...he became kind of a joke.
I'd really like to read the full texts of the Variety, Hollywood Reporter, New York Times and L.A. Times reviews. I think the only full review i've read from its initial release is Pauline Kael's from the New Yorker. She ripped it to shreds.
But i have never heard it to be a "critically acclaimed" work, and i don't believe it was nominated for any serious awards. Maybe i'm wrong, though.
I can't remember what glossy pop film magazine was out around the time of Premiere in the mid to late 90's...but it had a feature called "Bad Movies We Love" or something, and they discussed it once in that context.

EDIT: i did just notice it's listed that Dunaway was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for this....but then, you know, PIA ZADORA has a Golden Globe. They're kind of a step below the Oscars/Emmys/Tonys.
