Actually jamesbeedie1, plenty of Bond films reference one another, for example:
-it was in Die Another Day I think that Bond looks at old gadgets he's used and remembers them fondly.
-At the beginning of Thunderball, Bond uses gadgets he received during Goldfinger.
-In Live And Let Die, Bond teams up with the son of a character he met in Dr. No.
-In From Russia With Love, SPECTRE is angry that Bond killed one of their agents in Dr. No, and thus want to kill him.
-Bond's rivalry with SPECTRE and main man Blofeld continues over several films.
-Then there's recurring characters other than M, Q, Moneypenny and other MI6 personnel, thus clearly acknowledging their introduction in previous films, such as Felix Leiter, General Gogol, J.W. Pepper, Jack Wade, Valentin Zukowsky, Sylvia Trench and Jaws.
And acefilm1, no it's not a different Bond. This is just like the Jack Ryan movie The Sum Of All Fears. It's happening before (the stories of the other films) but it's happening after (in terms of "time"), and one just has to get over that.
Drop it like it's legal precedent!
