A medical drama revives their career and then they leave? How will they write that into the plot for MerDer? They're married! And after they finally get together and are stable they have to break them up AGAIN to write him out of the show?...
shareHe's not leaving the show, that's just a rumor that's not true. Shonda Rhimes has tweeted numerous times that those reports aren't true and Patrick has said numerous times he's staying on till at least the end of his contract, which ends after Season 8, not Season 7 as the rumor is saying. Ellen has said she plans to leave after her contract is up at the end of Season 8...so most likely the two of them will leave together.
And it's not exactly a George...who left after like 3 seasons...8 seasons is a good long time to stay on a show.
Pulling a George Clooney? If Dempsey leaves Grey's I don't see him having a film career like Clooney.
Clooney left ER in it's 5th season. Then he came back and made 2 more guest appearances. Who knows, Ellen and Patrick could leave together and leave "Little Grey" as the center of it all. I do think "anthropo" is right about how Patrick won't have a film career like George's.
sharePatrick and Ellen have said they were fulfilling their contracts and leaving after season 8. That will probably also be the end of G/A, as there would not be much interest in the show without them. The fan base is dominantly watching for Mer/Der. Shonda just sold a new medical genre show to ABC, I assume they hope it will become the new G/A. Eight years is a long run for any show, and PD want's to have time for other pursuits, such as racing and film production.
Did George Clooney have a career before ER? Im sure Patrick will stick around as long as possible...he knows whats it like not to get paid.....

shareI have no doubt that Dempsey will be around when he does leave Grey's Anatomy. Look at Clooney. He is still around after his "ER" days. Clooney was the McDreamy of the 1990's and Dempsey is the McDreamy of the 2000's. I would love if Clooney and Dempsey did a movie together. My best friend and I would call off work just to see that movie lol
