RIP
News broke of his passing today. What an amazing director. He will be missed!
shareJonathan Demme was one of my absolute favorite directors. It's a shame we won't see anything more from him. He was tremendously versatile. He did every genre. My very favorites of his are Cousin Bobby, Melvin and Howard, Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs, Stop Making Sense. Even one of these movies would have made him special but he got it right nearly every time. You could feel his humanity in every film. He had empathy for the characters in his movies. He was a treasure and I will miss him.
shareYes, and I wish more people were honoring him here. Lambs was/is a genuine blockbuster, Philadelphia was groundbreaking (at least to me), Stop Making Sense may be the concert film movie ever, The Manchurian Candidate was a solid re-make with big stars Meryl and Denzel. I really like Something Wild, personally.
So how about a little love for J Demme, folks !
Maybe if people notice it trending, they may make a comment. I think the site was too new at the time for people to post here. It's a shame though that there isn't more discussion. He was one of the finest directors working in the past 25 years. His movies deserve some analysis from fans and movie goers. Demme made so many different types of movies. He was good at everything. And, I just liked him, he was such an interesting person and kind of a character.
shareThanks. The old board was a bit more dynamic, and like you, I have a special fondness for JD. I really don't know much about him personally, but I'm sure a lot of people would have something to say about his career if we had more eyeballs. So Lambs was on the other night, and I was motivated to beat the drum and shake the tambourine a little.
Thanks for writing.
