The biggest flipflopper/liar in cinematic history...

He IS my favorite actor,I admit that. Maybe that´s why I´m harder on him then I would be on Jude law or something....but the filmography with films he has been connected to and not shot is worse then any other actor.

-Was gonna play Khan in Star trek 2. Role went to Cumberbatch.
-Was gonna play Roy Medeo in The Iceman Role went to Liotta.
-Had the lead against Day-Lewis in Scorseses Silence. Didn´t do it.
-Lead against Cameron Diaz in Agent 21.Didn´t do it.
-Was gonna do the three stooges with Sean Penn and Jim Carrey. Didn´t do it.
-Got 5 mil to play Richie Roberts in American Gangster. Role went to Crowe.

Benicio, this isn´t flattering. Don´t get fans hopes up or be so arrogant to confirm your name is attached to projects before you have decided to actually do them. You are a greater actor then you have become. Peace.

Don't know about the rest but for Star Trek 2, he asked for more money than they wanted to give him. Once word got out that he was approached Abrams was angry because he wanted so desperately to keep the character a surprise. He not only got rid of Del Toro but three other Hispanic males up for the role, Khan being originated by the great Mexican actor Ricardo Montalban. When cast some actors claimed Cumberpatch was Gary Mitchell and some of the trailers gave you the impression that the chaos seemed to be psycho-kinetically manipulated like the character of Mitchell.

It is not the fact that Del Toro is a flip flopper degenerate of sorts. It is just sometimes fate goes in a different direction.

There were other projects I recall Del Toro being attached to around 2001. There was talks of a "To Have & Have Not" remake or "Key Largo" remake. Neither project moved forward.

It was not Del Toro's fault that Abrams & Co. did not want to pay Del Toro more. They could have easily afforded Del Toro's fee.

Scheduling & other deals can take priority. It is not uncommon for various actors to be attached to a project but if it does not start by a certain date then they have to leave. That may have been the case with "The Iceman".

Agent 21 was talked about but never actually went into production. Cannot fault Del Toro for that.

Yes, Del Toro was attached to do Three Stooges with Penn & Carrey. It was an all or nothing sort of deal, where if one actor dropped out the other two would not go forward. I take all 3 were keen to work together. But it was either Penn or Carrey who actually dropped out first. That is when Del Toro and the other party left. No harm, no foul. While it would have been novel to see all three actors together doing the Stooges, it was probably for the best that it did not happen.

Yes, Del Toro and Washington had "Pay or Play" deals. They were cast and set to do American Gangster with Antoine Fuqua set to direct. Due to money issues, the studio shelved the project. When it went back into production Del Toro had already moved on to working on other projects. So it was not his fault he did not get to act in American Gangster.

Fate can deal a cruel hand to the selfish fan. I am sure actors get disappointed too. I think of Del Toro's former colleague, Timothy Dalton. There are plenty of other projects I wish came to be with Dalton. But unfortunately it did not happen.

Del Toro has been lucky and managed to have a more prolific filmography. I wanted Del Toro to be a part of The Rum Diary, as he did too. Del Toro became friends with Hunter S. Thompson. But it just did not work out. That is how it goes. Don't fault the actor.

I agree with you completely. People only see one side of all most everything. We, the fans, generally only see the entertainment portion never the business side of things.

The problem with Benicio is just that;he wanted more, you said it,they could easily have given him more....but it seems it wasn´t worth it to them. It might be him thinking he´s ranked a little higher then he is...he is one of the greats IMHO,though. How much he was or is worth? Well, back in 05-06 he was hot shi- compared to now and Denzels and his"play or pay" contracts gave Denzel 20 mil,Del Toro 5.

There´s are alot of could, ves and would´ves and I get a few projects....but being linked to more movies then the actual made ones...at some point he should´ve just stepped in and said to his people"Don´t hook me up or attach me to maybe projets not confirmed yet."

What about Silence?A scorsece film he is attached to for a few years before dropping out. It seems he certainly is about to have a areer revival, just based on on Sicario and the one with Robbins....and that gangsterflick with Pacino and half of Hollywood.

Why should Benicio not attach himself to various projects that interest him? It is the nature of the beast. It is not his fault if projects do not move forward. So he should not even be pro-active? Then of course Benicio would get less work.

hat about Silence?A scorsece film he is attached to for a few years before dropping out.
That would have been interesting but you cannot give Benicio grief for that either. It was down to Scorsese and financing. No one wanted to finance such a picture for many years and Scorsese kept getting involved with other projects. When the time finally came Benicio was busy with other projects. That is the way it goes.
