shareI would've said it was The Usual Suspects that put him on the map, initially.
shareMy thoughts about that film are that it didn't turn out well at all. Some "cute" scenes but overall an embarrassing mess. ( A movie like The Hangover was the sort of film that they were probabably aiming for.) HST's hubris and narcissism probably stalled any hope of success as he wanted most of the scenes to be about him, which didn't translate to the screen. Plus it was made too late to have any effect on audiences. The clownish acting didn't work either.

shareNo. It was definitely The Usual Suspects that put Benicio on the "map".
Sadly, Fear & Loathing went unnoticed and unappreciated by audiences during it's theatrical run. The only people outside of the cult following of F & L, who noticed Benicio's great performance as Dr. Gonzo were Hollywood Executives who thought Benicio had truly lost it!
Dalton and Craig! Accept NO substitutes!
