So, Mr. Cosby's guilty verdict was reached in late April. His sentencing will be a full 5 months later, in late September.
Why is there this long time lag between the two events? Is it just because the court has to wait for an opening in the hearings calendar?
It seems like they should just get on with it.

I come to you penitent, and ashamed. The truth is, I threw myself into a heady, unwise relationship with another site. All the signs were there that it wasn't working...yet I foolishly shut my eyes to them. I WANTED TO BELIEVE IT COULD WORK. Finally I could no longer ignore the posts on the wall, and walked out.
I hope to heal quietly here, and rebuild the relationships I so recklessly cast aside...all for something "new".

Already I am trying to make restitution to MovieChat. Yesterday I posted that the dress Marilyn Monroe wore as a presenter at the 1951 Oscars was a costume borrowed from THE HOUSE ON TELEGRAPH HILL, made by her studio that same year. I even provided pictures.
Of course this does not make up for my wrongs...but I hope it is seen as a start.

In most jurisdictions, a pre-sentencing report must be prepared first. Five months is not unusual.

Brock Turner's sentencing occurred 2 months after his conviction.
The time between conviction and sentencing will vary depending on the offense and the docket backlog of the jurisdiction.

Yes.
I think if it's a felony offense, you usually just go back to jail, and the time is later deducted from your sentence. Like, if you are a convicted murderer or rapist (as Cosby is), they don't just set you loose on the public while they decide on the sentence.
That's part of what the house arrest is about in Cosby's case.
