Jeez...if she wasn't related to Francis Ford Coppola she probably wouldn't have a job. Virgin suicide and lost in translation were really good, but why hasn't she made anything just as good?

shareEven if those were her only two good movies and were, as you described them, "very good", that's still better than most directors. She's only made 5 feature films, most working directors have more misses than hits.
That being said, 4/5 of her films had some level of acclaim, more so than the vast majority of films released. So she's in a rare tier of directors where every film she releases is anticipated with interest by film critics, film festival boards, etc.
If she has 2 good movies, then of course she'd still have a job... 2 good movies is more than lots of people who are still allowed to churn out crap!

Like others have said, there are loads of terrible directors who make bad movies all the time. Why do they still have a job? Sofia made a brilliant movie in 'lost in translation' but you think she just wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for her father? Makes sense. Also, Somewhere and the bling ring are good movies.You make it sound as if she's made about 20 movies when she's only made 5.
shareMaybe, but Lost in Translation is a masterpiece. And a masterpiece is counting way heavier than five good movies. And Virgin Suicides was amazing too. There are a few directors that achieved what she achieved as a director and as a writer with Lost in Translation.
