Eight is Enough

Is Betty the same actress that played Dick Van Patten's wife on the show?? I always wondered what ever happened to her... If it is, I'm surprised the tv series isn't listed on her credits since her CV goes back to 1971. Hmmm.

reply

Betty plays in Eight is Enough as Sandra Sue 'Abby' Abbott Bradford, but not as dick van patten's wife.

reply

uhhh... just who do you think Sandra Sue "Abby" Abbot Bradford was? His mother?

reply

Ummm she was his wife, his second wife...She came on the show as Tommy's tutor, than fell in love with Tom, Sr. His first wife was played by Diana Hyland, she was the kids mother. But, Diana Hyland died of cancer during the first or second season I think.

Also Betty Buckley has done A LOT of Broadway. She is a beautiful singer.

reply

Betty is a beautiful singer
why didn't they use her beautiful voice more often?

Basil: Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

reply

She tried to get the producers to let her sing they gave her a hard time.

reply

There were two episodes where she got to sing and it was powerful. Especially on episode 35 when she did the song So La. The camera work on that episode was great and Betty sung her heart out on that.

reply

The show wasn't a musical?
She did a long stint as Esmeralda in Cats.

reply

True, Eight is Enough was not a mucical. However, the producers realized what they had with the fabulous Ms Buckley and gave her the opportunity to sing on a couple of occasions. The TV LAND Awards recently nominated her for their "Who Knew They Could Sing" award.
