Cast as an older person early in her career

I know it's acting and all, but I wonder if it was considered offensive (to her, etc. To me it seems to be) to be playing an older person when she was clearly young? (e.g. The teacher in Carrie, when she was only a few years older than the students and as Mrs. Bradford on Eight is Enough - she again, only a few years older than the kids and even one of the "girls" was older than her).

I doubt that it was offensive to her. She's an actress and it's a role. Sissy Spacek was in her mid 20s and played 17. If you 'look' the part, you get the role. She was perfectly cast in Eight is Enough and still is my favorite character on that show. Had she not been on it, I doubt we'd all even remember it was ever on the air.

It was a dumb question I asked a couple years ago. I'm not even sure why I asked it.

Anyhow, it never occurred to me that Betty Buckley was a "young" teacher. She seemed much older (especially playing the step mom on Eight is Enough) then I found out that she wasn't quite 30 y.o.

Well, I'm not so sure about your comment about the show had Betty not been on it. I mean, I was born, raised and still live in Sacramento, Ca. Eight is Enough is practically the only show that has ever been on TV that was supposed to be in the city of Sacramento. Beyond that, there were more memorable characters on the show that I could relate to at that young age back in the 70's like Willie Ames and Adam Rich. I always had a crush on the oldest daughter, Mary. I liked older women, but for some reason, I wasn't attracted to Betty's character. I guess I wasn't into the "milf" thing back then.

True true, very valid points :) I guess it all depends on the age we were when the show was on. I was Nicholas' age when the show first aired and I watched it with my Mom and I think Betty was one of my favorite TV moms, even though she was a stepmom LOL...thanks for responding, I love chatting with fellow Eight is Enough fans :)

I loved Eight Is Enough and I love Betty Buckley. I always assumed that Tom Bradford simply married a younger woman after his first wife passed away.
