'Abby' in the reunion movie blew Buckley away

In my opinion the actress from the first "Eight is Enough" reunion movie who played Abby, Mary Frann, was much better and more likeable than stuck up Buckley

reply

Disagree! Although Mary Frann was a fine actress and did an admirable job, she was no Betty Buckley!!!

reply

I agree, jkinoz. Mary Frann was a pretty, personable actress. I loved her in NEWHART.

Betty Buckey is a great actress with an incredible range.

reply

I agree, loved Mary Frann in Newhart but Betty is the one and only Abby and it always was a disappointment that she wasn't in the reunion movies and they had to recast.

Stuck-up? She is one of the kindest & most gracious celebs on the planet !

reply

I love her as a performer, but I've heard she can be quite savage to co-workers, underlings, and students. I suspect she is simply a complicated person--usually, true of the most interesting and gifted people I've known.

Mary Frann was a lovely lady and performer, but I just didn't buy her as Abby - too perky and cheerful. Betty's Abby was an interesting character - soft spoken, deeply principled, and fiercely independent. She added a lot of flavor to EIE, and she was greatly missed in the reunions.

I love BB as a performer, too. I don't have a problem with her being 'savage' to co-workers; I'm sure they can dish it right back at her.

However, I have a problem with her being 'savage' to underlings and students. That's not being 'complicated'; that's just plain mean.

Just saying.

I can't bear labels.

Yes, but remember, the "savage" reports are just hearsay. No actual students or underlings have come forth with complaints against Ms Buckley.
