Soon to be in Grey Gardens (the musical)

Playbill reports that Betty will be taking on the role of the older Edie in a summer production of "Grey Gardens" which won Tonys for its stars Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson. I have seen her on stage in several productions, and I must say, she certainly wins my vote as the best Norma Desmond on stage in "Sunset Boulevard". Her mad scenes were truly scary. She was fantastic as the alcoholic society matron in "The Old Friends" off-Broadway a few years ago. I only wish her production of "Dear World" which she did in London had come to the United States. Friends who saw her at Paper Mill in "Gypsy" says she is the best Mama Rose ever!

Here is the info:

Tony winner Betty Buckley, who begins a weekend engagement at Joe's Pub May 28, will star in a production of the award-winning musical Grey Gardens this summer at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor. Performances are scheduled for Aug. 4-30 at the Long Island venue.

"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."

Betty tweeted that she fell off a horse and fractured 5 vertebrae. I sure hope she heals in time to do Grey Gardens.
